Second day: Remove doors and drawer, prep cabinets oak cabinets, add new wood crown molding, under cabinet trim(light rail) to existing cabinetry and apply binder/primer. Third day: Apply finish to existing boxes and newly applied trim. Fourth day: Install and adjust new doors and drawers hinges, and hardware. Door and drawers are finished in our shop locally. Valance above sink removed and bead board installed on island (with or without vertical trim). New appliances. Painting on wall was being applied the day of picture, (Sorry).

A number of things took place aside from our typical replacing oak doors and drawer fronts with solid maple doors and drawer fronts. Kitchen Solution colors were antique white with a hand applied espresso accent glaze. Under cabinet trim was installed on the underside of upper cabinets. In addition, a complimenting crown molding was installed at the intersection of drywall soffit and cabinets. Often plumbing lines are placed within these soffits and cannot be removed reasonable fashion, hence the crown in a constrained area

Not the normal kitchen we have been asked to upgrade. These tiger maple cabinets were very high end custom built; each one being an individual piece of furniture with custom made hinges. Not liking the dark wood finish, the owner wanted a cabinet look exactly like Kitchen Solutions provides. Existing bead board and crown molding remained in place and finished to match the new cabinetry finish. In addition the wood back splash was removed and replaced with a subway tile that incorporated a very subtle accentuating accent tile. The amount the owner saved over new ones is north of 65%. A typical scenario where Kitchen Solutions provided a cost effective kitchen cabinet upgrade for less than new and obviously less and more durable than refacing, especially considering that removing granite without breaking is virtually impossible. Fairly routine oak kitchen cabinet update… finish existing cabinet boxes, new crown below soffit, under cabinet trim, new solid maple doors and drawer fronts, hand applied accent glaze on the doors and drawer fronts. The existing cabinets in this kitchen were the ever so popular plastic laminate with built in wood pulls. This type of cabinet is one that Kitchen Solutions encounters quite often, second only to oak. This particular customer wanted a custom color for new doors and drawer fronts as well as the existing cabinet boxes. This home owner was confined to a wheel chair and wanted access to the micro wave. As you can see we modified a cabinet and as a result the top two drawers were non functional and the bottom drawer remained operational. Very similar to the job in Triple Crown kitchen, white thermo foil (plastic veneer refacing type) doors were replaced with our solid maple doors, antique white in color with charcoal accent glaze for main kitchen along with a red colored island and espresso glaze as well. Having a different color island is quite common and done frequently, and in this case the red island was a natural fit because of the existing custom window treatments and faux painting in place.
Kitchen Solutions installed a new granite top on the island. The owner decided to leave the solid surface tops in place in the remainder of the kitchen. Panel were installed on the sides of all island and peninsula base cabinet sides. The existing oak cabinetry, along with the arch doors, was a very dark color. I think they had 1968 stamped on them. Next up… new granite countertops. The existing cabinet over the micro wave was raised to create more space for micro wave as well as break up the monotony of cabinets being at the same elevation. An additional layer of crown was added to existing crown to accentuate a bit more.

With granite countertops and stainless steel back splash in place, and not wanting to tear them out and start over, and only after receiving multiple estimates from new cabinet vendors, the owner presented us with two options. Match new doors to existing panels on back of the wall, island, and sides of cabinets or install new panel and doors that match in a style she liked. The ladder was selected. New solid maple panels were installed throughout. Custom made contemporary crown and under cabinet trim to match was installed to compliment the cabinet door. The owner came to us wanting a high end cost effective option to upgrade the kitchen cabinets without having to tear and the granite and starting over. Replacing all the large expensive pantry cabinets and the built in crown molding was not an option. They wanted a clean look with a contemporary/Shaker door. As you can see this is what was decided upon. The owner purchased the hardware and Kitchen Solutions installed it. Generally speaking, as in this kitchen, when selecting a contemporary door, accent glaze is not applied. Clean lines is the name of the game.

As you can see in the “before” photo this kitchen was definitely in the need of some upgrading. The existing cabinets were plastic laminate. Plastic laminate and drawer fronts were replaced with solid maple doors, antique white finish, hand applied espresso accent glaze, with under cabinet trim installed to the bottoms of upper cabinets. As a finishing touch, crown molding was installed on the top of the cabinets. Note how the oil rubbed bronze hardware and espresso accent glaze works so well together and how it complements the granite countertop. All that is missing is some accent.

A typical scenario where Kitchen Solutions provided a cost effective kitchen cabinet upgrade for less than new and obviously less and more durable than refacing. Although there is no before photo, the existing kitchen cabinets were typical medium oak colored, hence the upgrade. As you can see in the photo, to accentuate the kitchen, the island was a different color as well as having bead board around perimeter. Completed in the home, existing crown molding and cabinet boxes as well as the under cabinet trim was finished to match the new doors finished in our local shop. This kitchen completed by Kitchen Solutions, appearance wise is a little out of the norm. The process however is our standard. This cabinetry had been hand painted a couple of times and as a result the prep work to accommodate our finish was a little more extensive but the end result was the same. The finish applied to the cabinetry is always sprayed, no paint brushes and as a result, no brush strokes.
A couple of features worth noting are the aluminum plate back splash above stove and sink and on the peninsula. Clean lines with simple flat doors were is what the customer wanted. And yes, the walls are black; they are not bad, under exposed photos.

Very similar to the job in Triple Crown kitchen, white thermo foil (plastic veneer) doors were replaced with our solid maple doors, antique white color with brown accent for main kitchen along with a java colored island glaze. Having a different color island is quite common and done frequently.

In this particular kitchen, white thermo foil doors were replaced with our solid maple doors, off white color with brown accent glaze. FYI, thermo foil doors are the type of doors you receive with a cabinet refacing project. 25% of our business is replacing thermo foil doors.

Typical oak cabinetry was refinished. In doing so, new wood solid wood doors and drawer fronts installed. These were finished in our local shop. In the home, new crown molding and under cabinet trim was installed to the existing cabinet box and finished to match the beautiful new doors. All doors receive new heavy duty concealed hinges and hardware. Granite countertops and full height back splashes were in place prior to Kitchen Solutions beginning the kitchen cabinet work. The existing kitchen cabinets were plastic laminate. This type of cabinetry is frequently refinished and surprisingly enough, easier. Aside from the cabinetry doors and boxes being laminate, it was a fairly routine kitchen project for Kitchen Solutions. New solid wood doors and drawer fronts replaced the laminate ones; the exiting laminate boxes, along with the newly installed crown molding and under cabinet trim was finished in the home. Does not even remotely look like the same kitchen, especially considering there was a huge 58% savings over new cabinets. A 50 year old kitchen. All three photos show the finished kitchen. The existing kitchen cabinets were the pinkish “pickled oak”, very high end cabinets, but dated. The owner had granite and full height back splash installed hoping that it would change the look of the cabinets. Guess what, it didn’t help. The kitchen had the typical “Builders Grade” oak cabinets with a flat panel door. How many times have we seen that? The appliance and granite countertops were in place when Kitchen Solutions was asked for a quote. The oak look was not quite the sleek contemporary look the owner wanted. Again, new full over lay contemporary doors and drawers and finished the cabinet boxes to match. As you can see, one of the doors is white in the before photo was finished to assist the owner with color selection. Note, all of the panel detailing on the peninsula was not removed. Not the normal process. Unfinished cabinet boxes were custom built along with all the wood trim and installed without being finished. Kitchen Solutions applied our furniture grade finish to these boxes, in place, and installed our custom finished doors, panels, drawers, panels etc to match.
